I’ve never met a person with CF who isn’t stubborn. We have to be. This trait enables us to survive day one of life, the first month, on to a year, past a decade, to chase down and then overtake the current average life expectancy.

How else are we going to acknowledge a drop in health and accept the mammoth challenge to try and turn things around? What else can we draw upon when our entire year is one health crisis after another? When else if we only have our mental toughness to pit against a rapidly failing body and there’s no clear winner? Why else would we get out of bed earlier, stay up later, or come home sooner to do our treatment each and every day? Who else when the medical staff no longer have any answers or options?

Our DNA gifts us grit. Life experience fosters indomitability. Daily life selects those with the temerity to keep on keeping on.

Stubbornness can be a curse, but when it comes to surviving CF… it’s a blessing.

  1. Wow. I have to say your blogs have great humor in them. I think it’s wonderful that you are 30 and doing SO well. I am 39 and still can’t believe I here. My health has taken a turn, however I am happy for everyday I get. Thanks for sharing in inside look of your life with CF.
